- Made from barley that has been cut into 6 pieces per grain, SHILOH FARMS Organic Barley Grits offer all of the nutritional benefits of whole barley, but cook in a fraction of the time! Because our grits are made from hulled barley (as opposed to pearl barley), they are considered a whole grain product, with 46 grams of whole grains per serving.
- These tiny chunks of the barley grain can be substituted in most recipes calling for grits and can easily take the place of hominy grits for those with corn allergies.
- A versatile cereal grain with a rich, nutty flavor, barley is naturally high in protein, fiber, and a variety of essential minerals (including manganese, selenium, copper, and phosphorus).
- It has the lowest glycemic index of any grain (about 1/3 that of wheat), making it a great choice for diabetics. Barley also has a different gluten structure than wheat, meaning that some with celiac disease and wheat allergies are able to safely consume barley.
- To Cook: Add 1 part Barley Grits to 4 parts of boiling water. Lower heat and simmer about 20 minutes, or until the water is absorbed and the grits are cooked to your preference.
